Privacy notice
What we collect, why, how long we keep it and your rights. We collect as little as we can.

Who we are
CHEAPERTHANTHEM is run by BelieveX Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 13225381), registered office Barbican House, 36 New Street, Plymouth, PL1 2NA, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal data described here and are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (registration ZB412452).
Questions or requests about your data: simon@believex.co, or use our contact form.
What we collect, why, and for how long
- Price alerts. Your email address, the product, any target price and your delivery settings (area and Prime choice). We use them only to email you when the price changes. Lawful basis: your consent, which you confirm through a link we email you. Kept while the alert is active; deleted 30 days after you unsubscribe or the alert ends. Unconfirmed requests lapse after 7 days.
- Contact messages. Your name, email address and message. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in answering you. Deleted after 24 months.
- Price-error reports. What you tell us and the page you were on, plus your email address if you choose to give it. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in keeping prices accurate. Your email address is removed after 24 months; the report itself contains nothing that identifies you.
- Delivery settings. A small cookie holding your coarse delivery area (for example “UK mainland”) and whether you have Prime, so prices are worked out for you. If you enter a postcode, we turn it into an area in your browser and never store the postcode. Kept for 180 days.
- Affiliate cookie choice. Whether you allowed affiliate cookies, stored in a cookie with a random reference, and a record on our server of each choice: that reference, the choice, the wording you were shown and when. It holds nothing else about you. We keep it to show the affiliate network, if it asks, that we asked you properly. Lawful basis: our legal obligation to be able to demonstrate consent. The cookie lasts 180 days; records are deleted after 13 months. See our cookie notice.
- Saved items. Stored in your own browser (local storage). They never reach our servers.
- Amazon links you check. We keep the Amazon product code (ASIN) so we can add products people look for. We don’t keep who looked it up.
- Usage statistics. We count events such as page views, product views and clicks to retailers so we know what’s useful, along with the site that referred you and whether you’re on a phone, tablet or computer. To count daily visitors we use a one-way hash of your IP address and browser type that changes every day and is deleted within a day; it is never stored with the counts. We don’t store IP addresses, device identifiers or the words you search for, and we use no cookies for this. Counts are deleted after 395 days. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running and improving the site.
- Security. To stop form abuse we keep a one-way, daily-changing hash of your IP address for up to a day. Our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP address and pages requested) to run and protect the service. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure.
We don’t ask for, and don’t want, special category data (such as health information). Please don’t include it in messages.
Who we share it with
- Service providers acting on our instructions: Vercel Inc. (website hosting), Supabase Inc. (database) and, when price-alert emails are sent, our email delivery provider. They may only use the data to provide their service to us.
- Retailers and affiliate networks: when you click through to a retailer, that retailer (and any affiliate network handling the link) receives your visit under its own privacy policy. We don’t pass them your email address or any other personal data we hold. Where a link is handled by Awin, an affiliate network, we tell Awin only whether you allowed affiliate cookies, and Awin records the click and any purchase so we can be paid commission: see Awin’s privacy policy.
- Authorities: if the law requires it, for example to prevent fraud or respond to a lawful request.
We don’t sell personal data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Where it’s stored
Our database is hosted in Ireland (European Union) and our website runs in the EU. Some of our providers are US companies and may access data from outside the UK; where they do, the transfer is protected by UK adequacy regulations or the UK’s International Data Transfer Agreement/Addendum, as appropriate.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct it, or delete it;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- send it to you or another organisation in a portable format (where that applies).
You can withdraw consent to price alerts at any time; every alert email has a one-click unsubscribe link. You can change your affiliate cookie choice at any time on our cookie notice. To make a request, email simon@believex.co or contact us. We’ll reply within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, though we’d like the chance to put it right first.
Children
The site isn’t aimed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you think a child has given us their details, contact us and we’ll delete them.
Automated decisions
We rank prices automatically by their verified delivered total. That doesn’t involve any decision about you, and we make no automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use personal data we’ll update this page and the date above. For significant changes affecting price-alert subscribers, we’ll tell them by email.
